Bonjour! My name is Carine, I am a  parisienne with an accent (@ourfriendinparis).

I have been guiding for years at Versailles Palace and gardens and realized how much my guests also loved this walk, like a local, through the city, before or after their visit. Indeed few people realize that Versailles is one of the most beautiful cities of France ... and not a touristy one! 

So follow me on a travel in time to discover the authentic city of Versailles: the former jail, the tennis court where the French Revolution started, the farmer market, Louis XIV's vegetable gardens, shopping streets, and many other surprises.

The visit is designed in two parts: part 1 is from the station to the palace(around one hour), and part 2 is around the palace to be done before or after the palace visit. 

Doing this visit on a Tuesday morning, Friday morning, or Sunday morning will offer you the pleasure of seeing the beautiful farmer market of Versailles.

If you come to Versailles, you will definitely visit the majestic Palace. As such, our Versailles walking tour will accompany you from the station to the Palace entrance and will make you understand that the city is not just its palace.

The Palace entrance

This Roman Catholic parish church is another gem that is part of our tour of Versailles. It was built at the command of Louis XIV by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in the French Baroque architectural style and has been classed as a historical monument since August 2005.

Eglise Notre Dame

Located in the heart of the Saint-Louis neighborhood, Saint-Louis Cathedral is one of the most important landmarks of the city. It was built in the 18th century as a parish church, and only a century later, it became a cathedral. Since 1906, it has been classified as a historical monument.

La cathédrale Saint Louis

Designed by Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie and commissioned by King Louis XIV in 1678, the King's Garden is the perfect place to relax while visiting the city. Reopened in 1991, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Le Potager du Roi

Located in the Notre Dame district, this is a beautiful gem many miss when visiting the city. There, you will find many antiquarian shops and art galleries.
