Hello everyone and welcome to medieval Óbidos! 

My name is Ana, I am a Licensed Tour Guide, and today we will be discovering this charming medieval town, chosen by the Portuguese as one of the country's Seven Wonders!

The Audio Tour will be around 40 minutes, but remember you can always stop and continue later. I am sure you will do it, since it is impossible not to stop at be amazed by the charm of this little town, its castle walls and colorful houses or even by the incredible shops or the traditional ginjinha!

Medieval Óbidos Tour

The Castle of Óbidos is the most important landmark of the city, which dates back to Roman times and is part of our Óbidos walking tours. Renovated in the 20th century, today it houses a splendid hotel and restaurant.

Porta da Vila is the main entrance gate to Óbidos, and its best feature is the stunning blue-tiled balcony. The tiles were added between 1740 and 1750 and depict the Passion of Christ.

One of the main activities to do in Óbidos is to walk the fortified walls that encircle the town. The whole walk is 1.5 km long and offers the best views over the town and the surrounding area. Before walking the walls, we recommend listening to our guide's suggestions.

City Walls

The main street of Óbidos is called Rua Direita, and connect Porta Da Vila to the Castle. Our guide will tell you more about the city while you take a stroll with our audio tours.

The Church of Saint Mary, or Igreja de Santa Maria in Portuguese, is the main church of the city. It has been the city of several royal weddings and houses important Portuguese Renaissance tombs.
