Hi everyone, my name is Natalie, and on this tour, I'll take you around my current hometown of Leuven.  

Leuven is one of the historical Flemish Art Cities, but it receives a lot fewer tourists than Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, or Antwerp. 

While it is a smaller city, it has all of the typical Flemish heritage: an impressive gothic city hall, many medieval churches and monasteries, and 2 beguinages. 

But, in addition Leuven also has one of the oldest universities in Europe. The university buildings and the students are all over the city and have made this historical city also a very innovative place.

Highlights of Belgium's Hidden Gem Leuven

The town hall, or Stadhuis, is probably the most important landmark in the city and a main stop in our Leuven walking tour. Constructed between 1448 and 1469, it's a magnificent example of the Brabantine Late Gothic style.

Fons Sapientae is the iconic statue located close to the City Hall. Over the years, it has been associated with different symbols in the city, and our guide will tell you more about it during our walking tours of Leuven.

St Peter's Church is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of the most peculiar aspects is that the bell tower was only partially completed due to a lack of funds at the time of construction.

Ladeuzeplein is the largest square in the city center. It was named after a former director of the Catholic University of Leuven, Mr. Paulin Ladeuze. There, you will find the central library of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

Leuven is the only city that has two beguinages, and the main one is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Currently part of the University complex, it dates back to the 13th century. If you want to know more about it, its history is narrated in our audio tours.

St Michael's Church is considered the most important Jesuit Church in Belgium. It has a Baroque façade, described as “the altar on the outside of the church”. It's another important landmark to visit in Leuven.

Usually known as "the longest bar in the world," the Old Market Square is full of bars, restaurants, and cafés. But this area is not just that, and our guide will tell you more in our audio tours.

Constructed between the 13th and 15th centuries, this is another little gem that you will find in Leuven. The tower has an openwork spire, dating from 1453, and inside you find an 18th-century carillon.
