Welcome to the historical city of Ghent, my hometown! 

Let me show you the highlights, including a 12th-century castle with moat and a schizophrenic city hall, but also some hidden gems such as a graffiti alley and the birthplace of an emperor. 

For about two hours, you'll learn more about the long and sometimes surprising history of this city which once was the 2nd most populated in Western Europe.

Historical Ghent: From the Manhattan of the Middle Ages to Graffiti Alley

One of the notorious points where to take photos of the city is the St Michael's Bridge. It's from here that you can have a perfect view of the three-tower and it's the reason why is one of the most crowded areas of Ghent.

The stunning Castle of the Counts, or Gravensteen as the locals would refer to it, is probably the most iconic sight in Ghent. It has a very turbulent past which you can discover in our Ghent walking tours.

The Groentenmarkt has been for centuries, and still is, an iconic market of the city. You can learn more about its history with our audio tours.

Located at the heart of Ghent, the Korenlei (Corn Quay) and the Graslei (Grass Quay) are known for being one of the oldest areas of Ghent.

Princes' Court, or Prinsenhof in Dutch, was a historical building of the city that served as the official residence of the Counts of Flanders since the 15th century when it replaced the notorious Castle of the Counts.

Built in the year 200, this is also known as the Bridge of Imperial Pleasures. The states by artist Waler De Buck that you can find there refer to various legends of the life of Charles V.

You cannot leave Ghent without a visit to the Ghent Belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage site that symbolizes the city’s prosperity and independence.

City Hall and Belfort

This architectural masterpiece designed by architects Robbrecht & Daem, Marie-José Van Hee is an attraction often overlooked by tourists but part of our tours of the city. We definitely recommend a visit.

City Pavilion

This stunning Cathedral dates back to the 11th century and is where Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, was baptized. It houses the famous Adoration of the Mystic Lamb which you can find inside.
